4-Day Marrakech to Fes via Dades & Merzouga Desert

Discover Morocco’s most iconic landscapes on the 4-day Sahara Express. From Marrakech, travel across the High Atlas Mountains to Dades Valley, explore Todra Gorge, ride camels in Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi dunes, and continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains directly to Fes, enjoying Berber villages, kasbahs, and stunning desert scenery along the way.

4-Day Sahara Express Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → Ouarzazate → Skoura → Dades Valley

Depart Marrakech early and cross the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Stop in Ouarzazate for optional visits to Kasbah Taourirt or Atlas Film Studios. Continue through Skoura Oasis and the Valley of Roses, arriving in Dades Valley for overnight stay.

Driving Time: ~6 hours (excluding stops)
Overnight: Hotel/Riad in Dades Valley (HB)

Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, explore Dades Valley, then drive to Todra Gorge, perfect for walking and photography. Continue toward Merzouga, arriving in time for a sunset camel trek across Erg Chebbi dunes. Overnight in a luxury desert camp with traditional Berber dinner and music.

Distance: ~250 km (155 miles)
Driving Time: ~5 hours (excluding stops)
Overnight: Luxury Desert Camp, Merzouga (HB)

Day 3: Merzouga Desert Exploration

4WD Desert Exploration and Tea with Nomads ( Starts after breakfast, meet the desert nomads in their tents and discover their way of life, drive along the high plateau of rocky desert with a huge panoramic view of the sea of dunes and varied desert landscapes to the "Ghost Town" of Mifis , an abandoned mining village where they excavate the ancient eye cosmetic of Kohl and quartz, here also you can still spot turtle, trulobites, Ammonites, and orthoceras fossils from the creatures which inhabited this ancient sea millions of years ago;  continue from Geology to music, to the town of Khamlia Village, sattelled by darker skin Berbers, here we will be able to hear the unique gnawa music from the local people who are descendants of ex-slaves that found their way to Morocco from Senegal and Sudan via the Salt Route.)

Day 4: Merzouga → Midelt → Ifrane → Azrou → Fes

After breakfast, depart Merzouga and drive through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains directly to Fes, stopping along the way in Ifrane (the “Switzerland of Morocco”) and Azrou (famous for cedar forests and Barbary monkeys). Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon or evening, concluding your 4-day Sahara Express tour.
